What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive procedure in which the dentist applies composite resin directly onto the teeth to correct small imperfections: gaps, uneven edges, short teeth, or surface staining. Unlike veneers, it requires no enamel removal, is reversible in many cases, and can be completed in a single visit. The resin is applied in layers, shaped while soft, and cured with a blue-spectrum light; the result is polished to match the natural enamel sheen. Results typically last 5 to 8 years depending on bite load, diet, and oral hygiene. Composite is more susceptible to chipping and staining from coffee, tea, or red wine than porcelain alternatives. One practical advantage is repairability: minor chips can be corrected chairside without replacing the entire restoration. Composite bonding is best suited for mild cosmetic corrections on teeth with intact enamel and a normal bite load.
